The Scout Promise
On my honour, I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to God and to the Queen,
To help other people
And to keep the Scout Law
Note: Scouting is open to all faiths so the Scout Promise can be modified if appropriate e.g. “duty to Allah” or duty to Dharma”. For foreign nationals the phrase “duty to the country in which I am now living” may be substituted.
Scouting is based on 3 principles, which are contained within the Scout Promise:
- Duty to self
- Duty to others
- Duty to God
Download this one page pdf to find out more on how the Scout Promise fulfils these 3 principles.
Making the Promise
The Scout Promise can be made in many ways; not just by saying it out loud. For example, a hearing impaired person might like to make the Promise in sign language such as BSL or Makaton.
